Senior Scholarship Program 2012

SAIL is pleased to announce that at the beginning of the 2012 season a male and female high school senior swimmer will each be awarded a college scholarship of $1,000.

Greenville First Bank has generously donated the funds to make these awards possible.

Candidates

Each high school graduate must submit a typed application including an essay on "What SAIL Has Meant To Me" to an Executive Committee member before the submission deadline. Any applications received after this deadline will not be considered.

The scholarship winners will be announced before the first swim meet of the season. An informal presentation will be made at the June SAIL Rep Meeting with the formal award presentation during the Classics swim meet. SAIL Reps of winning swimmers will be notified in advance to enable the attendance of the winners and their families.

Friday, May 18, 2012 5pm
Award Announcement prior to first meet
Award Ceremony at Classics:
Sunday, July 22, 2012

Requirements for scholarship award:

  • graduate from high school within one month of the submission deadline
  • swim in three SAIL Divisional Meets before the submission deadline
  • begin studies at an accredited college in the fall of 2012
  • compose a four part (sportsmanship, leadership, mentoring of younger swimmers, and team spirit) essay on "What SAIL Has Meant To Me" using the official application form
  • complete a typed application form
  • application signed by swimmer, team SAIL Representative, and SAIL coach

Criteria for scholarship award:

  • sportsmanship
  • leadership
  • mentoring of younger swimmers
  • team spirit
  • number of SAIL Divisional Meets swam
  • grammar, spelling, and writing

NOT Criteria for candidacy:

  • Swimming ability/accomplishment
  • Academic grades

SAIL Reps and Coaches

SAIL Reps and coaches are responsible to:

  • make sure all Seniors know about the scholarship
  • review and sign the essay/application
